Right, well it seems that RE Challenger has taken a big turn from what I have created. Along time ago when I created RE Challenger in the Summer, the main idea was to show the world mine and Nathan's challenges. I then thought it'd be a good idea to let the world send in their own public challenge speedrun videos, and so far I'm pretty impressed with what we've got for that (although I wish we had a few more entries). Then, I decided that it'd be fun to have a little contest to see who could get the fastest Speed Runs on most of the games from the series. For the first 2 or 3 months, it was a very fair competition. Everybody enjoyed the friendly competition, and any average RE player had a chance to win. Now...
We have people who are sending about 4 submissions a week, and spending all their free time just trying to become the best of the RE Gamers. I don't mean to sound arrogant or big headed, but I consider myself a pretty decent gamer at Resident Evil. I don't spend all or even much of my free time on RE, just when I'm in the mood. And even now, I can hardly win any of the challenges on my own website. I have thought about this for along time and I have now come to a conclusion which I think you all need to hear...
I am now putting a restriction on the amount of challenges/speedruns you can send in. 1 Speedrun a week, and 1 Challenge every 2 weeks I think, is a fair restriction, which means that people can stay champion for a reasonable time, and it will give everyone a reasonable amount of time to practice the speedruns.
Also, at the start of 2006, the Speedruns and Challenges will be split into 2 sections - NTSC and PAL (which is basically US and Europe) so then everyone has a fair chance, and then we can have national challenges, rather than the global challenges, as people have noticed differences in the editions. Also the last thing that'll cause alot of moaning, is that I will be resetting all of the speedruns once this split happens, so that there is no mix up between the NTSC and PAL versions. I know that it may seem annoying to all of you that have worked, but this will also give the newcomers of the every growing population of RE a chance to become champion. I will be keeping the videos challenges though, as they require much more effort, and that would be unfair to reset those.
I apologise to everyone who has submitted Speed Runs, but if we kept things the way they're going, RE Challenger would be dead at the start of 2007 with the Rock Hard Challenges, and we would never get the community to grow. I hope everyone can understand my reasoning for this, and if you have any complaints, then please do not hesitate to tell me.
P.S: The Speedrun restrictions are in place as of now
